Geospatial Distancing Episode 5 | Wandering Wildlife & Geospatial Kids
Episode Five - Geospatial Distancing
Sheltering in place has temporarily removed the human population from city streets and local wildlife has arrived to fill that void. In this episode of Geospatial Distancing, we discussed the implications of animal populations venturing beyond their familiar stomping grounds and how it could be monitored using geospatial imagery. We also shift gears to discuss how the online classroom can introduce younger generations to remote sensing, and the outreach efforts to educate the next generation of scientists.
In this episode we discussed:
- Mountain lions, otters and elk – oh my!
- Using change detection and Sentinel data to monitor the unusual movements of these wildlife populations
- Adorable children introduced to the world of remote sensing through virtual interaction
PANELISTS:
Joey Griebel (L3Harris Geospatial)

What is Geospatial Distancing?
Geospatial Distancing is a weekly series of live, informal video panel discussions with experts and influencers in the remote sensing industry. When working from home became the new normal, the opportunities for face-to-face conversations disappeared. Geospatial Distancing combines the nerdy discourse you crave with the unpredictability of live broadcasts.
