Academic and Non-Profit Accessibility to Commercial Remote Sensing Software

Academic and non-profits institutions have increasingly turned to remote sensing to solve difficult and often large spatial problems because remotely sensed data is now more freely available and software used to extract information from it has become easier to use. Exelis has supported teaching and research endeavors for more than 30 years and over the last five years has put a special emphasis on them, providing scientifically proven software and accessible training materials.

The Exelis academic program extends to US and Canadian two and four year colleges and universities with tools for analyzing aerial and satellite multispectral and hyperspectral imagery, airborne LiDAR data, and Synthetic Aperture Radar. Exelis academic programs enable labs and classrooms to be outfitted with ENVI products and also make the software accessible to students.

With ENVI, students get hands on experience with remote sensing software, professors have an easy teaching platform, and researchers employ scientifically vetted software that they can trust. Exelis provides training materials at no additional cost that can either serve as a basis for course curriculum development or self paced learning. Non-profit organizations like The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and CGIAR have deployed ENVI and IDL enterprise wide licensing to give researchers all over the world cost effective access to COTS software for their research. Exelis has also contributed licenses to the NASA DEVELOP program.

Exelis is committed to supporting the academic and NGO community with affordable enterprise licensing, access to training materials, and technical expertise to help researchers tackle today’s Earth and Planetary science big data challenges
