New ENVI release introduces integration with ESRI ArcGIS

Boulder, CO – August 4, 2008 – ITT Visual Information Solutions (ITT VIS), a wholly owned subsidiary of ITT Corporation, (NYSE: ITT), announced the newest release of its premier geospatial image processing and analysis software, ENVI. The new release, ENVI 4.5, allows professionals to integrate geospatial imagery into GIS workflows by providing users with the ability to share data seamlessly between ENVI and ESRI’s ArcGIS.

“Traditionally considered a backdrop to GIS, imagery is now being used by professionals in a variety of industries to acquire geospatial information essential for critical decision making,” said Richard Cooke, president and COO of ITT Visual Information Solutions. “The integration of ENVI and ArcGIS now allows users to take advantage of ENVI’s high performance image processing capabilities as a part of their GIS workflows, providing them with even richer geographic information.”

"Working with a proven leader like ITT Visual Information Solutions is an excellent solution to extend our users' imagery capability," said Jack Dangermond, ESRI's president. "ITT's ability to take advantage of ESRI's already interoperable platform to provide GIS users with its powerful image processing tools will greatly enhance users’ experience in working with imagery in a GIS context. The collaboration between ITT VIS and ESRI to bring this capability to users across a wide variety of industries and disciplines is an excellent example of Geography in Action.”

ENVI 4.5 provides the ability to export any ENVI activity including processed imagery, vector, classification or extraction results to the geodatabase for ready use in GIS workflows. ENVI 4.5 supports enterprise, file and personal geodatabase types. This new capability gives users of both products increased workflow efficiencies and time savings when integrating imagery with GIS applications.

In addition, ENVI 4.5 provides direct access to the full suite of map composition tools available in ESRI’s ArcGIS Desktop. This allows users to complete image processing and analysis functions in ENVI and then launch the ArcMap application of ArcGIS Desktop from within ENVI to generate reports and map compositions.
