[INTERNAL] Test iMac Partition Management and creation

Anonym

The purpose of ths internal help article is to track how to manage the Test iMac Partitions. The article will be edited to include useful links and steps for creating partitions.

1. Partition into 4 partitions total
    - 1 Current partition (10.14.6)
    - 1 250GB Future 1 - Upgrade Partition 10.14.6 > 10.15.X
    - 1 250GB Future 2 - Catalina Fresh 10.15.X
    - 1 250GB Future 3 - As-Is (leave blank)

2. Make Future 1 a 10.14.6 OS version (clean)

3. Make Future 2 a 10.15 OS version (clean)

4. Leave Future 3 as-is... whatever that is.

5. On Future 1, follow the same steps as done on Current Partition. Then, upgrade from 10.14.6 on Future 1 to Catalina 10.15.X. This will be the 'upgrade partition'
    - Make notes on what happens to EIDL when the upgrade occurs. Track into a HA

6. On Future 2, follow the same steps taken on Current Partition, installing EIDL.
    - Make notes on what EIDLs installation on clean Catalina. Track into a HA

7. In the future, when a new upgrade is provided, take the Future 3 and place the new upgrade fresh onto this. Rotate using the Future 1 Upgrade Partition to test what happens with the upgrade. Continue cycling until no more upgrades are available to you.
    For example:
    - Future 10.16 comes out, place onto Future 3 fresh
    - Take Upgrade Partition running 10.15 and upgrade it to 10.16. What breaks? Track accordingly in a HA.
    - Future 10.17 comes out, wipe either Current Partition 10.14.6 (to get rid of earliest installation which will become unsupported) or Future 2 and raw install 10.17. Lather rinse repeat the steps with Upgrade Partition as needed.
