Dear Envi Users,
I want to open the MTL file in Envi 5.0 Classic from File-Open External File-Landsat-Geotiff with Metadata, I select the MTL file from the specific folder and I get this message :
Geotiff metadata File : D:\mozaic\LC81820272013209LGNC00_MTL.txt
Problem: An error was encountered reading this file.
Error: Array dimensions must be greater than 0
I just downloaded the image, I have not changed anything. I also tried in Envi simple and I get the same error.
Could anybody tell me what is the reason?
Thank you,
Georgiana Badea

Usually this .MTL file comes along with other files that contain the image data for each band of the Landsat dataset. Do you have all of those files as well? I am wondering whether this error is caused by ENVI not finding the associated data files that it expects, based on the information in the *.MTL file?

At quick glance the file name appears to be a Landsat 8 MTL, could this be a Landsat 8 image? If it is a Landsat 8 image, ENVI Classic does not support that platform. The new ENVI has the support for Landsat 8 images.

Yes, this is a Landsat 8. I try to open in the new Envi and I get the message : "Unable to recognize the file type of the input." although I select at type Metadata (*.met; *.txt). I tried with Landsat 7 also in in Envi Classic or New and the same.
Yes, I have all the files that came with the image data set.
Finally I selected the bands manually, without the .mtl file.
Thank you so much,
Have a great day!

I believe the Landsat-8 support was added in a hotfix or service pack for ENVI 5.0. You might try to obtain this update by contacting Technical Support. An upgrade to the latest version would be even better.
