I do the registration of satellite imagery on a regular basis, using map|registration|image to image. I imagine that the process of correlating ground control points would be easier if the new imagery would be oriented in more or less the right way (they come in all oblique rectangles). I do have the lat/lon of the corner points. Would it be possible to use this information to orient the map in more or less the right position before the registration and subsequent warping?

I don't believe that ENVI has any way to take the four corner coordinates and roughly position the image during tie point generation. At least, I have not been able to find a way to do it. - Peg Exelis VIS
