Hi there-- I'm learning my way around ENVI (and remote sensing in general)... I've run a PCA analysis on all 12 bands of an ASTER image. I'm trying to figure out how to interpret the stats file--I get a covariance matrix, a correlation matrix, eigenvalues, and the other data I expect to find. However, in all the matrices, both the rows and the columns are labeled Band 1-12. I can't tell which one pertains to the original bands, and which pertains to the PC's. Usually, I see cell headings for the eigenvalue matrix as: PC 1 PC2 PC3 PC4 Band 1 band 2 band 3 band 4 Ultimately, I want to figure out which ASTER bands are contributing how much to each Principal Component using the factor loadings equation (unless there's an easier way to do it)... But which are the rows and which are the columns? Someone posted the same question here about 2 years ago, I see--but I don't think it was fully answered... Thanks! --Steve

Hi Steve, You might be interested in a tech tip that on the web site that gives more information about ENVI's PCA output, and provides some code that you can use to calculate the band weightings for each principal component. You can find the tech tip here: http://www.ittvis.com/ser...echtip.asp?ttid=2807 I hope it helps. Peg
