The ENVI help file says that "ENVI applies gains and offsets to the geophysical (non-reflectance) products, so you do not need to apply them". When I open up an MERIS level 1 image (ESA N1 data) the the data are 16 bit numbers. In other words, I have to apply the scaling factors to get the geophysical floating point numbers. Does anyone know a way around this?

Is your product a reflectance product?  If not, then ENVI *should* apply the gains/offsets to the file so that it opens as floating point radiance.  If it is not, then please contact technical support so they can report this problem to development.
