I've purchased ASTER L1A image and now I'm stuck how to calculate radiance and brightness temp from it. I have ENVI, ERDAS 9.1 and ArcGIS 9.2. If anyone knows how to calculate these then please help me, I've tried many formulas but none of them give the desired results. the temperature needs to be calculated from TIR bands only. Basic process is the convertion from L1A --> L1B, which i dont know :(

Depending on the version of ENVI you have, when you open the ASTER image, the scale factors should automatically be applied to convert the VIS-SWIR bands to radiance (I think this was added in ENVI 4.3).  Prior to 4.3, there is an ASTER Radiance tool under Basic Tools.  To convert the TIR bands from radiance to brightness temperature, you can use the Basic Tools ->Preprocessing ->Calibration Utilities->Calculate Emissivity.  Both Reference Channel Emissivity and Emissivity Normalization will return temperature.
