I am trying to extract the first and second returns from a LAS file in ENVI 4.8 - by conerting it to an ENVI Raster File I use the following flow: Open External File --> LAS LiDAR --> Convert LAS Data. This procecure produces the intended raster file (DEM), but there is no geographic cordinate information when I use the Cursur Location/Value tool in the image window - only the row and column values. There are no Select Output Image Projection available. In the help section is states that "This option is available only if the LAS file has associated geospatial information" A copy of the LAS header file is given below. There are eastings and northing coordinates provided in the information, but is there something missing? FILE_SIG LASF RESERVED 0 VERSION_MAJOR 1 VERSION_MINOR 2 SYSTEM_IDENTIFIER GENERATING_SOFTWARE TerraScan FLIGHT_DATE 0 YEAR 0 HEADER_SIZE 227 OFFSET_TO_DATA 229 NUM_VAR_RECORDS 0 POINT_DATA_FORMAT 1 POINT_DATA_RECORD_LEN 28 NUM_POINT_RECORDS 1500774 Points by Return [ 1] 1104397 Points by Return [ 2] 396377 Points by Return [ 3] 0 Points by Return [ 4] 0 Points by Return [ 5] 0 X_SCALE_FACTOR 0.0010000000 Y_SCALE_FACTOR 0.0010000000 Z_SCALE_FACTOR 0.0010000000 X_OFFSET 500000.00 Y_OFFSET 7000000.0 Z_OFFSET -0.00000000 MAX_X 267999.69 MIN_X 267463.22 MAX_Y 8617000.0 MIN_Y 8616000.0 MAX_Z 37.601000 MIN_Z 3.6860000 Regards Dan Spatial Scientist Energy Resources of Australia Ltd.

Those values alone are not enough to determine the actual projection system. Most LAS files I have seen also have a series of TIFF tags that look like "PROJECTEDCSTYPEGEOKEY 32616 ". Is this this tag that determines the projection system. If you do see these types of tags in your LAS Header file, then ENVI should be reading that information and generating the map information for the output files. In this case, you should contact Technical Support directly as it sounds like a bug.
