Hi, I would like to ask some questions about new 3D Lidar Viewer. 1) I am not able to open lot of files, that I was able to open in ENVI 4.7 with Lidar Toolkit - for example dataset, that are in folder LIDAR Visualisation - demo dataset that can be downloaded from ITT VIS pages (file 42124B3317.las) and also *.las data from LiDAR demo skript called las_sample_1. All these files I am able to open in ENVI 4.7 with Lidar Toolkit, but with ENVI 4.8 new LiDAR Viewer I have only black window of Lidar Viewer and nothing happened. I didnt get "Process Data dialog" as should open according to help. 2) In Lidar Toolkit ENVI 4.7 I created las file from ASCII and this file I was able to open in new 3D Lidar Viewer - but this is kind of uncomfortable, because in ENVI 4.8 I am not able to convert ASCII to las file even in new 3D Lidar Viewer. Is there any possibility to convert ASCII file to *.las file with ENVI 4.8? Thank you very much. Lucie

The toolkit that was available in the Code library for previous versions of ENVI is a different tool than the one added in ENVI 4.8. More functionality will be coming with the lidar tools in the future. If you have specific issues with the tool, it would be best to contact ITT Technical Support directly to help you resolve these issues.

Hi Folks, I got the very bad surprise that 3D LiDAR Viewer was not available on my platform. Indeed, the only reason I am using ENVI now is because this is available on POSIX systems (OS X, SUN and Linux). But apparently some (and more and more) features are only developed for MS-Windows OS. At least I can understand in the case of the ArcGIS toolkit as ArcGIS is unfortunately only proposed for Windows, but I strongly think ITTVis get wrong when they offer new features only for MS platforms.
