Hi, I have ENVI 4.8 and I'm curious about the lidar tooklit. Is that now a standpart of ENVI or is that a seperate download? Currently, if I go to: Window-->Start Lidar Viewer, this looks like this could be the Lidar toolkit but I've seen seperate screenshots where there is a Lidar menu under the main ENVI menu, which makes me think this isn't the toolkit. Is the Lidar tooklit standard and if not how does one go about getting it? Thanks

The Lidar Toolkit is still available for download from the Code Library (under User Community). However, it is not entirely compatible with ENVI 4.8 since ENVI 4.8 has some of its own Lidar tools (such as the viewer).

Ok, thanks for the info and the link to E3De. I have another question if you don't mind. I'm interested in comparing InSAR to LiDAR for detection of subsidence due to groundwater withdrawal. Between either the LiDAR view or the LiDAR toolkit, do you think one of these would be sufficient to make comparisons between these 2 different technologies. I'm asking because I would prefer to stick with 1 software package (ENVI with SARscape and Lidar Toolkit/Viewer) that is capable of analyzing both types of data rather than use a separate LiDAR software for processing (not to mention the cost of a new software license). Thanks

I would think that ENVI's LiDAR Viewer would not be a very good tool for assessing whether you can detect your subsidence with LiDAR data. If you have anything on the surface (trees, buildings, etc.) besides the terrain you want to measure, then it may be challenging to determine exactly where the surface itself is. The LiDAR Viewer does not have tools for extracting a DEM from the LiDAR data, like E3De does. But it does have a mensuration tool, so if you can find the surface, and view the subsidence, you should be able to measure it. - Peg
