I'm new to ENVI, but I trying to use ENVI ZOOM to identify shrubs in the desert using the feature extraction tool. I was able to do this using a tiff file created by clipping a large NAIPS image into a smaller file focused on my study area. To get higher resolution, I made exported several zoomed-in maps in ArcMap 10.1 and combined them into a single tiff file (which I can load into ArcMap without a problem). When I tried to open this file, I received an error message stating that ENVI could not determine the file format. I am wondering if there is a problem with the way that I tried to create the single tiff, or with the size of the file (it is about 1.5 GB). Is there a maximum file size that ENVI can handle? I've read through the user manual, but cannot find any information about this issue. I would appreciate any help anyone could provide. Kevin

I am not sure what might be wrong with the TIFF. ENVI Zoom can accept a TIFF up to 4GB in size. ENVI 5 now supports BigTIFF which can accept TIFF files larger than 4GB. If you are using ArcGIS 10.1, there is now an option to export an image in ENVI format (.dat + .hdr). You might try this option.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll try the ENVI format and see if that helps. It's good to know that it isn't a file size issue, so it must be something with the tiff itself. Kevin
