Dear ENVI users, the new functionality of ENVI 5.0 for uploading Landsat 8 tiffs from metadata file is very useful. Anyway, I found a big problem when trying to saving the uploaded images to envi format (.dat + header). Whenever I try to do this by following SAVE AS >> ENVI the program unconditionally crashes. There is anyone havng the same problem? Is this a known common problem? Is there a way to save Landsat 8 imagery in ENVI format? I really need help, hope someone can give advices. Thanks, Massimo

I do not believe this is a common problem. You mention you are using ENVI 5.0. Have you applied the last service pack (SP3)? This update may resolve the issue. I would be sure to remove the preference files under your home directory ( \.idl\envi ) after you uninstall the program.

Yes sure, I have installed the SP3. Anyway I found a way to circumvent the problem. Once the files are uploaded on the Data Manager, one has to run Layer Stacking by using the metadata file. The program will show 5 copies of the same file, but actually I discovered they are related to the 5 different types of images of Landsat 8 (Multispectral, Panchromatic, Cirrus, Thermal, Quality). The layer stacks are now able to be saved on an ENVI file with correct header. Masismo
