Hi, I am having trouble opening Landsat 8 images in ENVI when trying to open as GeoTIFF with Metadata using the _MTL.txt file. I have tried in ENVI 5.0 and get the error: Unable to recognise the file type of the input, as well as ENVI Classic which gives me the error: Array dimensions must be greater than 0. I would also like to calibrate the data (once opened) in order to view radiance/reflectance values as opposed to DNs. Is this possible for Landsat 8 in any version of ENVI? Thanks

Are you running ENVI 5.0 SP3? You can find out by going to Help->About ENVI. It should show 5.0.3 as the version. Or you can use ENVI 5.1. ENVI Classic will not recognize Landsat 8 metadata files so you need to use ENVI 5.x.

It's just 5.0. I'm not running it on a private machine otherwise I would download SP3. Is 5.0 not able to read these files? Thanks

The format of the MTL files changed and the updated reader is in the service pack. So unfortunately, ENVI cannot read them as metadata files. You can of course open them as separate TIFF files but all of the calibration would have to be performed manually.

Since the current version is ENVI 5.1, you will have to request the previous version download from Technical Support directly.
