Hi, I am a new ENVI user and am looking for a little help. I am working on a project where I georeferened a ton of 1970's aerial photography in ArcMap and am currently in the process of mosaicing them together, However I was not happy with the result of ArcMaps mosaicing function and was told to use ENVI instead by a peer. How do I get an image into ENVI and have it retain its geographic information that I gave it in ArcMap? Could some one direct me a tutorial or help me by letting me know what steps I need to go through to get my images ready for mosaicing in ENVI. I am using the 5th edition I believe. Sorry if that isnt very clear, like I said I am very new to ENVI. Thanks.

Hello, ENVI version 5.1 has a Seamless Mosaic workflow that is simple to use. Plus ENVI uses the Esri projection engine, which means that nearly all of the projections available in ArcMap are available for use in ENVI. So your georeferencing details from ArcMap should be retained when using ENVI. Here are some tutorials that describe the Seamless Mosaic workflow: Simple workflow (for quickly creating a georeferenced mosaic): http://www.exelisvis.com/docs/mosaict... Advanced workflow (color balancing, seamlines, etc.): http://www.exelisvis.com/docs/mosaica...

Unfortunately I am working with ENVI 5 which I don't think has the Seamless Mosaic tool. I guess I just don't understand what the header file is or how to use them. When I georeferenced my image in Arc it gave me a .jgwx .aux and a .enp file for each image. Is one of these files my "header".

Hi, None of those files generated by ArcMap are header files. The .jgwx and .aux are metadata files, and the .enp is a pyramid file. I don't have a copy of ENVI 5 at the moment, but you should be able to import the georeferenced images into ENVI, then use the "Georeferenced Mosaic" tool from the Toolbox. ENVI header files (.hdr) are only created if you save an image out to ENVI format. But you shouldn't have to do that. ENVI should read in your georeferenced files from ArcMap.

I believe ArcGIS has ENVI format as an option for export. You could either export to ENVI format (my first choice) or to GeoTIFF. Both of these methods should write the map information to the file that will be accepted by ENVI.
