I recently downloaded several images from Digital Globe. These include WV2 and WV3 images of my study site, and they are currently in *.til format. I have previously downloaded WV2 imagery of this area and successfully worked with it in ENVI (a previous version). My organization recently upgraded to ENVI 5.3.

I have two issues: Unfortunately, when I navigate File > Open as > WorldView2 and select the *.til file I receive an error message along the lines of "Can't open, you don't have the NTTF license." I don't know what this means and can't find it on the web :/

Second: there is no WorldView3 option under "open as" and if I try WV1 or WV2 it simply says "this isn't a WV2 file," which is true... but I'm stuck on how else to open this data.

Has anyone else had a similar problem opening WV2 in ENVI 5.3? Has anyone successfully opened WV3 data in ENVI 5.3? All feedback is welcome. I realize (and hope) there's a simple solution here and I'm just unaware.

Hi Sarah,

For Worldview data (1,2, and 3), you do not need to use the File->Open As option. I would instead just use the File->Open and select the .TIL file. ENVI should recognize the file type.

NITF (.NTF) is a data format used most often by the military. WV data can also be distributed as GeoTIFF. The .TIL file is a metadata file that provides information on how to open the different tiles of the data that are either in geotiff or NITF (most commonly). It sounds like you have a NITF format WV-3 dataset which requires a NITF license to open and read.

Is it possible to request the data from DG in GeoTIFF instead of NITF?
