We are looking for a more automated method for loading the new Landsat Level 2 products from USGS. This was discussed in the Joe Peters blog post titled "Working with Landsat Surface Reflectance High Level Data Products in ENVI". As stated in the post, we can load the individual tif files and then add the information to the header's manually. However we are working with time series analysis (lots of images), a more automated tool would be beneficial.

Mr. Peters mentioned in his blog post that he had an initial version of an extension to load these files, but I could not find this anywhere.

Does anyone know of any tools to convert the .xml file to a _MTL.txt file?

The file would not need to be an ENVI/IDL extension, an external script file or program would also be beneficial.

What version of ENVI are you using? ENVI 5.5 has the new Model Builder that I think would be very useful in this case to import the TIFF files, layer stack them and add in metadata. Since it is already surface reflectance, it seems the only metadata you would need to add are wavelengths. Spatial reference comes with the TIFF files already.
There was some support for SR Landsat OLI but those products still use the MTL.txt.
