    Hello,
I have been processing Landsat 8 images with ENVI/IDL and I have run into a problem when I try to save a VPCA band with data ignore values. After the image goes through the PCA to VPCA rotation, I import the VPCA bands to ENVI from IDL. After the memory file is saved, I select the edit ENVI header management file option to enter a data ignore value of 9999 which is the mask value I created earlier in the process. After I enter in the data ignore value, the recently saved VPCA file gets removed from the data manager and is no longer able to be selected so that I can load the bands individually. I have tried using the edit ENVI header file before I save and after I save the VPCA files with the same result. This issue is not a result of a full computer hard drive and before the data ignore value is entered, I am able to see all of the bands in the image with the mask so I know that the data is there. If you could give any insight on why the software might be tossing my recently saved VPCA file, I would appreciate it.

    Thanks,
    -Nina Ward

I am not familiar with VPCA but it sounds like you are generating this array in IDL, is that correct? Then you import the IDL variable to ENVI or how are you creating the ENVI file? Can you post the header from the file imported to ENVI that you are trying to add a data ignore value using Edit Metadata?
You might also try File->Save As->ENVI format which allows you to enter a data ignore value in the header.
