I would like to crate Example File or Ground Truth Data in ArcGIS and then use these as signatures during Example-Based Classification. I would like to also use the same signatures file for 3 different time sets. But when I try to load my signatures file I get a message: " Invalid Example File". Should I calculate statistics first or something like that? How should the signature file looks like? Best regards, Ania

The shapefile should have the CLASS_ID as an attribute used for grouping polygons. Also in the FX dialog where you import ground truth, be sure to use the correct button that looks like an arrow and if you hover over it with your mouse, it will say "Import Ground Truth data". It is *not* the folder button which is for importing previously created example files. I get the same error if I use this button.

Thanks! I have one more problem. When I try import ground truth data I get a message: There is no overlap between the raster and the input vector. I create ground truth data file in ArcMap, with shp extension, only for my input raster. These two layers: image and shp have the same area and overlap each other. What I should do to be able to import ground truth data?

Does your image have spatial reference? When you open it in ENVI, go to View Metadata->Coordinate system, does it show a valid coordinate system such as UTM? If it is arbitrary or missing, then you won't be able to import your ground truth shape which likely *does* have spatial reference.
