ENVI 5.3 - Crash on Startup

    ENVI 5.3.1 32- and 64=bit fails to launch, showing warning " JSON_PARSE: Invalid string, no closing '"' " before aborting.

    When ENVI is launched with IDL, IDL will open properly but ENVI never fully opens past the splash art, and doesn't display an error in this case.

    I have already tried both repairing and reinstalling the software, and rebooting the PC. This first became an issue on Wednesday, June 10th.

    PC specs:
    Processor: Intel(R) Xeon(R) Gold 5120 CPU @ 2.20GHz, 2195 Mhz, 14 Core(s), 28 Logical Processor(s)
    GPU: NVIDIA Quadro P4000

    Try moving or deleting the .idl directory from your home. For example on windows, this location is:

    C:\users\\.idl
    Also remove the IDLWorkspace adjacent to this directory.

    This directory contains many configuration files that can sometimes become conflicting or corrupted. When you restart ENVI or IDL, these folders will be recreated 'fresh'.
