IDL 8.2/ ENVI 5.0 WRITE_TIFF update installer error: "Can't create output file"

IDL 8.2/ENVI 5.0 introduced the ability to write BigTIFF files using IDL's WRITE_TIFF procedure. However, there was a bug in the initial release that is discussed in the Help Article "IDL 8.2: Problem with WRITE_TIFF on Windows". A fix for this problem has been provided on our downloads page here.

When running the installer for this patch (envi50idl82win_r3.exe), you may encounter the following error message:

If you encounter this message, please close down any IDL and/or ENVI sessions that are running and try the installation again.
