An Update on IDL and ENVI Licensing Support for macOS 27 Golden Gate
Updated: October 1, 2026
Node-locked licensing for IDL and ENVI is currently unsupported on macOS 27 due to security changes introduced in the operating system. These changes prevent the software from validating node-locked licenses.
You may encounter this issue in one of two ways:
Server error: Unable to find valid bindings for this machine
or
Response Code 453: No valid bindings specified
At this time, there is no supported method for using node-locked licenses directly on macOS 27. However, the following workarounds are available:
-
Use an NV5 License Server: IDL and ENVI can run on macOS 27 when configured to use an NV5 License Server hosted on a Windows or Linux system accessible on your network.
-
Remain on a supported macOS version: If you have not yet upgraded to macOS 27, or if you can revert to an earlier version, staying on a supported operating system will preserve full node-locked licensing functionality. For example, IDL 9.3 and ENVI 6.3 support macOS 26. See our Platform and Feature Support Matrix for version-specific compatibility information.
Our development team is actively investigating potential solutions and workarounds. While we do not have additional updates to share at this time, we will provide more information as it becomes available.
We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.
