How to fully uninstall ENVI and/or IDL
The procedure below shows how to complete a clean and full uninstallation of ENVI and/or IDL from a Windows or Linux machine. This procedure is valid starting with version ENVI 5.4 and IDL 8.6
Such full uninstallation could be required to fix licensing or software issues that cannot be fixed by standard workarounds/procedures.

Administrator privileges are required for uninstallation
I - Instructions for Windows platforms
- It is recommended to inactivate all local licenses available on the machine so licenses will be available for reactivation after uninstallation. See Deactivate License in the link below:

- Uninstall ENVI and/or IDL using the dedicated Windows Tool to uninstall a program
- If additional NV5 products are installed such as SARscape, ENVI Crop Sciences or ENVI Photogrammetry, uninstall each of them using the dedicated Windows Tool to uninstall a program. This can be done from the Windows Control Panel > Programs and Features > Right-click on program name and select “Uninstall".
- Delete manually the NV5 (or Harris) installation folder located by default in the C:\Program Files\ folder
- Delete manually the following folders (or move them to an archive directory)
- The .idl folder located in the user home directory by default
- The .metadata folder located in the IDLWorkspace folder if present - IDLWorkspace is saved in the home directory by default.
- The Harris folder located in C:\ProgramData\ if present
II - Instructions for MAC & Linux platforms
- It is recommended to inactivate all local licenses available on the machine so licenses will be available for reactivation after uninstallation. See Deactivate License in the link below:

- Uninstall ENVI and/or IDL by deleting the nv5 (or harris) folder from the installation directory (by default: /usr/local on Linux or /Applications on Mac)
- If additional products are installed such as SARscape, ENVI Crop Sciences or ENVI Photogrammetry, uninstall each of them by deleting the corresponding installation directory
- Delete manually the following folders (or move them to an archive directory)
- The .idl folder located in the user home directory by default
- The .metadata folder located in the IDLWorkspace folder if present - IDLWorkspace is saved in the home directory by default.
- The /tmp/harris/ folder if present
5. Delete any symbolic links beginning with "idl" or "envi" in the /usr/local/bin directory.
