How to migrate your active legacy license to a Next-Generation license

Background:
NV5 Geospatial has adopted a new licensing technology for all future releases of our ENVI, IDL and SARScape products beginning with ENVI 5.7 and IDL 8.9. This technology is known as “Next-Generation (NG) Licensing”.

If you are using a license that was previously activated on the legacy licensing engine for previous ENVI/IDL versions, and install ENVI 5.7 / IDL 8.9 in the same directory afterwards, the License Administrator of the latest version will be able to detect it and help you migrate the license to the new licensing engine. After this migration, you can then use ENVI 5.7 / IDL 8.9 without the need to reactivate the license on the same machine.

Note about legacy FlextNet licensing system

Starting June, 1st the legacy Download and Licensing portal for FlexNet licenses is no longer available. All downloads need to be completed on our new portal:

https://www.nv5geospatialsoftware.com/Product-Downloads

Active licenses in FlexNet system will continue to work. However, each new activation/reactivation/rehost of licenses for versions ENVI 54/IDL86 and higher versions will need to be completed in the Next-Generation licensing system. See Question 2 in FAQ

For that purpose, a patch is available, to make versions ENVI 54/IDL86 up to ENVI56/IDL88 compatible with this new system. See Question 21 in FAQ:

Client machine, which is connected to a license server:
As soon as the new NG license server has been installed on the server machine and the existing licenses were migrated from the legacy licensing engine to the new licensing engine (see steps above), clients will need to reconnect to the server.
Connect a client machine to a Windows License Server: https://www.nv5geospatialsoftware.com/docs/install-windows.html#Client
Connect a client machine to a Linux License Server: https://www.nv5geospatialsoftware.com/docs/install-linux.html#Client

Please note: License migration is an online process that requires an internet connection. Please contact Technical Support if you do not have internet access.
