SENSORS AND SATELLITES

KOMPSAT from Satrec Initiative (SI)

With the addition of KOMPSAT-2, 3, and 3A to the L3Harris imagery archives, we can further add to the vast amount of data options available for customers. With images available dating back to 2006, this is a great source of historical data, especially of countries in Asia. These sensors collect imagery at 0.7m and 1m resolutions, with the typical RGB & NIR bands offered as well. KOMPSAT-5 is the first South Korean Satellite designed with a X-band SAR payload and it became operational in early 2014. KOMPSAT-5 operates at Dawn-Dusk orbit between an altitude of 500 km to 600 km. Because it is a SAR sensor, it can operate in all weather and lighting conditions. The main function of KOMPSAT-5 is to deliver high-resolution SAR images of 1-meter resolution, though 3-meter and 20-meter resolution are available covering larger areas as well. This is a very beneficial sensor to use in areas of frequent cloud cover or areas in very high latitude to obtain data where optical sensors cannot.
