INTERNAL: Error on Windows 95 regarding comctl32.dll

Anonym
Topic:
I provided a copy of comctl32.dll from a Win95 machine that was working fine here. Here is some additional information that the customer sent on how to get the new DLL to work properly.Discussion:
Dear Carol, after installation of the comctl32.dll you provided, IDL v5.3 beta1 started up and worked ok (using the license information that was given to me). Thus, apparently, the old comctl32.dll I had on my Windows-95 system caused the page fault and you may want to make a note of this (the "old" file was from July 1995; I don't recall the version number but I can find out if it's important for your records - let me know if you need it).

P.S. The only "diffculty" I had was to install the new comctl32.dll - the system (in Windows mode only) did not allow me to rename the old file, nor did it allow me to copy (overwrite) the new file because the file was being used by the system. (I rebooted in MS-DOS mode by pressing F8 at startup and was then able to rename and copy the file.)

Additional example of this problem using IDL 5.3 on first generation WIN95 system --

Error: "IDLDE caused and invalid page fault in module COMCTL32.DLL at 0137:bff03749..."

Resolution: Customer replaced older comctl32.dll with newer version of .dll which fixed the problem:

"...Thanks. It worked. The offending machine was rebuilt in house with a
Pentium(r) processor, and I don't know the source of its motherboard. It was
running WIN95 v. 4.00.950 and Microsoft Plus!, and the COMCTL32.DLL
had the same version number. I obtained the newer version 4.72.2106.4
from a Micron Pentium(r) machine running WIN95 v. 4.00.950a."Solution:
