(Internal) Installation order for the ENVI 4.7 and EX service pack 2 (SP2)

The releases of the ENVI 4.7 Service Pack 2 and EX Service Pack 2 introduce new functionality to ENVI 4.7 and EX. The installation of these service packs includes updating of many of the base ENVI and EX files . This Help Article describes the procedure that must be followed in order to have a successfully updated installation of ENVI 4.7 and EX to SP2.

Note that for both ENVI and EX, Service Pack 2 includes all of the updates in Service Pack 1. Therefore it is not necessary (but it is OK) to install Service Pack 1 before installing Service Pack 2.
 
Installing the ENVI 4.7 SP2 (ENVI only upgrade)
  1. Install ENVI 4.7 if it is not already installed. If you already have ENVI 4.7 with the first service pack (SP1) installed, proceed with the following instructions.
  2. Download the ENVI 4.7 Service Pack 2 (SP2) from the Exelis VIS Downloads Web Site at:
    www.exelisvis.com/Downloads/ProductDownloads.aspx
  3. Install ENVI 4.7 SP2, using the instructions available from the download site.
  4. Verify the service pack is installed by launching ENVI which should display "ENVI 4.7 SP2" in the main menu bar. ENVI Zoom displays "4.7 SP2" in Help > About.
    You're finished!

Installing the ENVI 4.7 SP2 and EX SP2 (ENVI and EX upgrade)

  1. Install ENVI 4.7 if it is not already installed. If you already have ENVI 4.7 with the first service pack (SP1) installed, proceed with the following instructions.
  2. Install ENVI EX if it is not already installed. If you already have ENVI EX with the first service pack (SP1) installed, proceed with the following instructions.
  3. Download the ENVI 4.7 and EX service packs (SP2) from the Exelis VIS Downloads Web Site at:
    www.exelisvis.com/Downloads/ProductDownloads.aspx
  4. Install ENVI 4.7 SP2, using the instructions available from the download site.
  5. Verify the service pack is installed by launching ENVI which should display "ENVI 4.7 SP2" in the main menu bar. ENVI Zoom displays "4.7 SP2" in Help > About.
  6. Install EX SP2, using the instructions available from the download site.
  7. Verify the service pack is installed by launching EX and going to Help > About which displays (Build 1359).
    You're finished!

Note for ENVI + EX users
If you install ENVI EX after installing the ENVI 4.7 Service Pack 2, then we highly recommend that you also install the ENVI EX Service Pack 2. Running ENVI 4.7 with SP2 and ENVI EX without it is not a tested configuration, and you may run into unexpected behavior.

Notes on uninstalling ENVI 4.7 SP2 and EX SP2

  • Uninstalling ENVI 4.7 SP2 will uninstall ENVI 4.7.
  • Uninstalling EX SP2 will uninstall EX.
  • If both ENVI 4.7 SP2 and EX SP2 are installed, uninstalling ENVI 4.7 SP2 will affect the EX installation. EX should also be uninstalled and reinstalled, if desired.
  • Likewise, if both ENVI 4.7 SP2 and EX SP2 are installed, uninstalling EX SP2 will also affect the ENVI 4.7 installation. ENVI 4.7 should also be uninstalled and reinstalled, if desired.
