OpenGL Hardware Acceleration UtilizationDiscussion:
Graphics display acceleration via hardware is a purely "local" capability. If the display that the user is looking at has an OpenGL hardware accelerator in it, then IDL 5.0 will take advantage of it and the graphics on that display will be accelerated. X-terminals with OpenGL accelerators in them will enjoy accelerated graphics. An X-term session on a terminal that has no hardware acceleration will see no graphics acceleration, even if IDL is running on a server bristling with GL boards.
