INTERNAL: The installation of MSVC_2005_SP1_x86 has failed. Setup will now exit.

PROBLEM: 

You try to install IDL 8.3 and ENVI 5.1 on a Windows machine and you receive the error message: 

“The installation of MSVC_2005_SP1_x86 has failed. Setup will now exit.”

This Help Article will guide you through a few steps and explain what you need to do in case you receive an error message on a Windows machine like this:

SOLUTION: 

1) Open a Command prompt.
- Click Start, click All Programs, and then click Accessories.
- Right-click Command prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

2 ) Copy the line below and paste it into the Command prompt and hit enter.

fsutil resource setautoreset true c:\

3) You will receive an message: The operation completed successfully.

4) Restart your computer

5) Install the ENVI 5.1/IDL 8.3
