DICOM-Specific IDL Modules

IDL® DICOM Modules

IDL DICOM modules can convert DICOM images to other formats, extract metadata from DICOM files, and create custom applications for working with DICOM data.

DICOM Toolkit

The DICOM Toolkit provides the ability to read and write DICOM files.

  • Read and write both public and private attributes, including sequences and sets of repeating tags within sequences (groups)
  • Read and write compressed DICOM files
  • Copy DICOM attributes from one file to another and view all the DICOM attributes contained within a file

DICOM Network Services

This module offers advanced network access and provides the functionality to integrate DICOM data with other systems.

  • Query a remote machine and retrieve selected DICOM files
  • Build custom queries
  • Send files to a remote destination
  • Troubleshoot network connections using echo

This module supports SCU (service class user) and SCP (service class provider) network functionality including Echo SCU, Query/Retrieve SCU, Storage SCU and Storage SCP.

IDL and DICOM

Interactive Data Language, (IDL), is a programming language and software environment that provides tools and functionality to read, write and manipulate DICOM images and metadata files. DICOM-specific IDL modules offer a powerful and flexible way to work with DICOM data.

DICOM is the international standard for handling medical images and other related data. It is widely used in hospitals and other healthcare settings to capture, store and share images such as X-rays, CT scans and MRIs and other data from different devices and systems.

How can we help?

IDL for Medical Imaging

IDL has been an integral part of medical imaging technology for the past four decades. It was used as a visualization and analysis solution for some of the first imaging modalities. Today, prominent medical companies around the world develop sophisticated software solutions using IDL, relying on the product’s stable and commercially supported platform and NV5’s extensive imagery expertise. The programming flexibility and advanced visualization capabilities of IDL continues to support medical research advances by the world’s foremost laboratories and hospitals.
