I have downloaded few scenes of landsat 8 from Amazon Web Services (S3). Datasets are provided in *.TIFF format. When I try to load it in ENVI it asks for header information (Which I believe is that envi is unable to read the format automatically). Though QGIS is able to read this tiff files and once exported from QGIS to tiff then envi reads this files. Is this some kind of bug in dataset format or envi?

I downloaded a single tiff from the dataset mentioned on this website: https://aws.amazon.com/public-data-se... I was able to open and display this tiff without error in ENVI 5.3. It also comes with the _mtl.txt files so if you download all of the TIFF files and the MTL, you should be able to open it using the MTL. What version of ENVI are you using? Did you open the file as TIFF or using the MTL?

I am using ENVI 5.3. I have downloaded all files for that particular scene. I tried to open single tiff (file -> Open Image File also File -> Open External File -> Landsat-> GeoTiff / GeoTiff with Metadata) but was not able to. Header info window pops up or displays error 'File does not appear to be a valid TIFF file' and in case of opening with metadata I received envi error 'This file is not a supported GeoTiff with metadata'. I also tried to use IDL to open tiff 'READ_TIFF: AdobeDeflate compression support is not configured'. Though, I am able to successfully open tiff from other web sources like earthexplorer directly using GeoTiff option.
