I am not yet a user of IDL. I am wondering if it can handle situations like this:

1) Can you render multiple datasets together? Say if I have a simulation of the outer 1/3 of the sun, and a separate simulation of the inner 2/3 of the sun. Can I put them together, in the same 3D virtual space, and make one image out of the two datasets?

2) And, separate question -- is it possible to show multiple types of geometry together? Say, a volume, with embedded surface geometry? For example, a volumetric tornado, with streamtube glyphs showing the motion of the air?
