Hi,
Having played with IDL7.0 workbench, it appears I'm in need of some major re-wiring of old habits. I'm throwing out these situations out there to get some insight or feedback as how to best re-learn how to do these things...
1. Switching between mulitple files.
OLD: inate Windows feel with CTRL-TAB switching between open file windows.
NEW: CTRL-arrow keys confines me into a list of previous edit locations (even if file is closed. Annoying as heck. Woof.
2. I was a heavy user of the old IDLDE's "help" and "print" of variable under cursor icons.
OLD: Hmm, what's the size or contents of "PPS[1:*].OBS_P06MM[idxOK]"? Highlight this in code and hit the HELP or PRINT icon. Presto.
NEW: Incredible P.I.T.A. to use the variable watch, which I never used anyway.
OLD: What were the tags of that structure? Presto.
NEW: P.I.T.A. to find the structure within 100s of alphabetized vairables.
3. The IDLDE STOP (aka reset) button.
OLD: a click away
IDL> RETALL
IDL> WIDGET_CONTROL, /RESET
IDL> CLOSE, /FORCE, /ALL
IDL> HEAP_GC, /VERBOSE
NEW: Is this now "terminate"? Some console feedback would be nice. I'd have to learn how to add this to "my toolbar".
Sigh, Peter
