Is it possible to detach the editor windows from the idl workbench window in idl7 on linux as it was possible with previous releases of idl (idl6). I consider this feature as very useful and would regret, if it is not ported to idl7.

The new version 7.0 IDL Workbench is based on an architecture provided by the Eclipse organization. For some reason their development environment paradigm has never been designed to include detachable editor windows. I am assuming this is intentional ... because 'eclipse.org' clearly has the technology and the resources to design detachable Editor windows. I notice, for example, that neither Java NetBeans, nor Visual Studio have detachable Editor windows, either. So, the old proprietary IDLDE may have been somewhat unique in offering this functionality. In any case, the IDL Workbench development team does not have the resources to reinvent Eclipse's model for editor windows. We are completely sympathetic with this request, however, and will add the functionality to the 'idlde' program whenever the architecture providers make it available.
