Image Segmentation / Object measurements

I am looking for IDL code which allows a user to segment imagery and derive measurements based on these segmented objects (ie centroid/perimeter/area etc...). Does anyone know of a program or free code which is available?

Hello! This is not a reply to your question. Just wanted to ask if you are doing an object-based image analysis? Is envi capable of this, like eCognition?

I don't suppose you're helped by the d_roi "starter code" that comes with the IDL distribution, and that you aren't helped by the free code posted at:
