NetCDF error code

    While opening a NetCDF file with NCDF_OPEN, IDL prompted the following error: NC_ERROR=-31. How do I find out what this error means?  Is there a list of error code numbers to what it actually means (in case I have other error codes in the future)? Many thanks.
