Hello all, I'm trying to clariy a couple of things about ALOS AVNIR2 scene orthorectification, 1. From the ENVI help someone can read : The along track incidence angle is the angle (in degrees) between the vertical position of the satellite and its forward or backward viewing direction. If viewed from the ground point corresponding to the scene center, the along track incidence angle has a positive value if the viewing direction is northward. The across track incidence angle is the angle (in degrees) between the vertical position of the satellite and its side-viewing direction when the sensor is scanning along the side. If viewed from the ground point corresponding to the scene center, the across track incidence angle has a positive value if the viewing direction is eastward. 2. While search for information a came along this piece o finfo : Optical Instrument Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Document Issue 1 Several angle values are embedded in ‘workreport’ file, how are they defined? Img_SunAngleElevation’ is the sun elevation, expressed as (90 - Img_SunAngleElevation) gives SZA. Img_SunAngleAzimuth’ is the sun azimuth positive from the north to east. Img_PointingAngle’, is the angle between viewing vector and vector pointing from platform to the satellite subtrack (nadir) (if negative, the pointing is toward the west). It is related to satellite zenith angle (VZA). Img_SceneCenterAngle’ is the angle between the vector pointing to satellite direction and local normal vector Img_SceneCenterOrientation’ looks to be the orientation of the satellite track with local meridian. If pointing is equal to 0, it is equal to the azimuth angle. No real information is given on azimuth angle 3. The scene I am working with includes this : (workreport file) Img_SceneCenterAngle="L0.2" Img_SceneCenterOrientation="13.6" Img_PointingAngle="0.000" Given the above, what values should be set in Incidence Along track and Across track angles, in ENVI's Build RPCs module? for the ALOS- AVNIR-2 image? Also, some suggestions for Polyonmial Orders (XS, YS, ZS, Omega, Phi and Kappa) values for the same data? Kind Regards,

I will try to give the above  in a short manner : If someone has orthorectified ALOS AVINIR imges with ENVI, what vlaues did she/he used for  1) along track incidence angle 2)across track incidence angle Are these values available in the workreport file that comes together with the actual data files?   Kind regards,

Thank you very much for your reply. It was obvious that this piece of information should be somewhere in the metadata given either as summary.txt or as workreport that i have received with my data, that's why I included the part of the workreport file that corresponded to these data : (workreport file) Img_SceneCenterAngle="L0.2" Img_SceneCenterOrientation="13.6" Img_PointingAngle="0.000" One last thing, have you got any aidea about the "Img_SceneCenterAngle" value, the L is a positional parameter? How is it taken into account?   Thank you for your time. Kind regards,

Hello, Returning to this post after a long time, I have another issue in the Build RPCs tool in ENVI trying to orthorectify ALOS AVNIR-2. I canot figure out what values should be used for Principal Point x0 (mm) and Principal Point y0 (mm). Kind regards,

You may not be able to find appropriate values for the Principal Point x and y. Those are properties of the camera used to collect the image. For sensors like AVNIR-2, you would need to calculate the principal point for your particular imagery, taking into account things like the side-looking angle. You would probably need to get some camera alignment parameters from JAXA to do the calculation. I was able to find some papers on the internet that discuss some of the complexities involved: http://www.ipi.uni-hannov...ner_Weser_Fraser.pdf http://www.optical-metrol...rincipal%20Point.pdf The short answer, though, is that you cannot necessarily calculate RPCs for any type of imagery using ENVI's Build RPCs tool. You do need to have quite a bit of information about the camera in order to do it, and it needs to be one of the types of sensors that ENVI's tool supports (Frame Camera, Digital (frame central or line central) Camera, or Pushbroom Sensor). - Peg
