Dear all, I am using the floating license of my institute under Linux. Currently there is only one license available (if one is working another has to wait). I need to run a simple script, however currently it will take 28 days to complete it.. So, I would like to take advantage of the empty cpu's waiting in the system. But, I do not know if parallel processing is possible under idl. Even if so, I do not know how to write mine.. So, I wish to run the same script under 6-8 windows to get the results at a reasonable time.. However, I can not start even the second idl window under the same user connected to the same Linux system. I am asked to wait until the first idl will be quit.. On the other hand, under windows this is possible. I can open as many idl windows as I want and I can run two scripts under the same system (Since the datasets are very large, I can not run the script in my pc and I have to run the script un the Linux system).. Is it possible to run two different scripts simultaneously under the same username in Linux ? Many thanks, Ray

You should be able to run multiple instances of IDL in Linux with only one license as long as you are on the same DISPLAY (e.g., :0 if you are running it on the main console)
