Hi everyone,
I recently installed IDL 7.1 on my laptop WinXP SP3. However, in the start->IDL 7.1 list there is no any "IDL" line but only "IDL Command Line" and some other lines like "IDL Help", "IDL Demo" etc . When I start the IDL Command Line it doesn't accept any command like idlde or idlhelp.
If I try to click on "IDL Help" I get a window saying "A Java Runtime Environment (JRE) or Java Development Kit (JDK) must be available [...]. No Java virtual machine was found [...]." Note Java is running (I can see the icon in the tray. I tried to install different versions of Java to no help. The IDL virtual machine works (I tested it with a package I got) and so the IDL demo.
So, I tried to uninstall/reinstall IDL to see how to make IDL development environment and help available.
Unfortunately, the system seems not to find any installation of IDL. There are no "IDL xxx" entries in the Add/Remove program list. But if I try to install IDL 7.1.1. It fails because it asks me to uninstall the previous version of IDL.
I tried using programs like Revo to uninstall it but there is no trace of IDL in the registry. However, the C:\Program Files\ITT\IDL71 is present on the HDD.
How to proceed? I can't uninstall IDL neither install the updated version! This is really surprising and I found no trace of the problem over the internet. I'm really stuck here with no other means to have IDL properly running.
thanks for any suggestion
