Hi, I had IDL 7.0 installed and working fine until last week when I came into work on Monday and it would not run.   Whenever i tried to run it the Microsoft error report pop up would appear and IDL shuts down.  The error report popup says that idlde.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. I have since uninstalled and reinstalled 7.0 to no avail and have now installed 7.1 again this has not fixed the issue. Can anyone please help find a solution to this problem. Regards Steven

I've got the same problem. They sent me a 7.1.2 patch, but that didn't fix it. Let us know if you find something that works! -Sam

Hi Sam, I contacted ITT technical support here is a copy of the e-mail I recieved I changed the first file name as stated in the e-mail and everything is now working fine.  Our problems may not be the same so if this doesn't work maybe you could  contact them diirect at support@ittvis.com  Hope this helps. We think that it is possible that some of the IDL preferences under the hidden directory called ".idl" could be producing the problem in IDL 7.0. Then when you re-install it and install IDL 7.1 you didn't delete the .idl directory and the problem persisted even into the fresh installs of 7.0 and 7.1. Could you then try to rename the following two directories?: First this one: C:\Documents and Settings\\.idl then, try to run IDL 7.1. Then, if it fails try to rename the following one: C:\Documents and Settings\\IDLWorkspace71 and try to run IDL 7.1 again. Those directories will be re-created when you run IDLDE again. But I'm thinking that it would be better if you instead of deleting them, just rename them to something else, like instead of ".idl" to "_idl" and "IDLWorkspace71"  to "IDLWorkspace71_back".
