I'm using IDL 8.0.1 x86_64 on Linux CentOS 5.5 I can run the IDL development environment idlde properly only once without having to reboot. To clarify, the main eclipse environment comes up, with prior workspace, if I didn't delete it, but then freezes while trying to connect to the IDL console (main idl program). I've seen it actually continue to work, with menus and files selectable, editable, but no console. Other times it just freezes. I have investigated the startup scripts, ini files, java vm ( I tried using my own 1.6.0.22 ), permissions, running as root, deleting /tmp files and .idl and workspace. Under no circumstances can I run IDL more than once without having to reboot. I also looked at the security settings, SELinux is turned off. The firewall is disabled. I reconfigured the network trying nslookup and making sure it could find my host, in case it's a license issue. I'm running GNOME, but I tried running under KDE as well, with the same problem. It may be a file lock, semaphore in the kernel, library bug, or something else. I can't find any information in the forums about this. I've been plugging away at this for several days, with no solution. I'm getting ready to reinstall with a Debian x86_64 system to see if the problem goes away. I ran the demo on my Debian system at home, and it seems okay. This is clearly an issue that could be addressed by the developers. I am out of debugging time. Any assistance is welcomed, and I can provide more information, to an extent, on what I've tried to fix this. Best Regards, Daniel
