I'm running IDL 7.1.1 on Ubuntu Linux (11.04). IDL installed fine, but when I attempt to open any image file, I get a pop up window that says "Fatal error: IDL has encountered a fatal error and will now exit" after which IDL closes. Any ideas on what the issue might be? Thanks.

Hi Hector, Try running IDL in Software Rendering mode. For example, start IDL from the linux prompt in this way: idl -IDL_GR_X_RENDERER 1 or if you want to use the Workbench: idlde -IDL_GR_X_RENDERER 1 Then, try openning the image. I hope this helps, Cheers, Fernando
