I'm at a university which has an IDL license. Normally, a VPN connection allows me to use University purchased tools off campus. I'm having trouble doing this with IDL. I believe it is an allowed option to do this. I'm using Cisco's AnyConnect VPN client. Does anyone know if there are additional configurations that are needed to allow this setup to access the license server? thanks in advance, Tom

I have the same issue. After I connect to the university VPN with cisco anyconnect, IDL does not manage to communicate with the university's license server, so that I am unable to run IDL over the VPN. Some other products requiring a license seem to work ok over the vpn.

Typically VPN connections will allow IDL to obtain licenses from a server on the same network, so I'm not sure what might be different regarding the Cisco AnyConnect (after looking through some of their documentation, nothing was obvious as to what might cause this to fail). Generally however, IDL requires TCP communication to be open on port 1700, so some things that you can try to test this connection are: 1. Attempt to ping the server name and IP address 2. Attempt a telnet session to the server name and IP address on port 1700 (telnet servername 1700) (If the above items fail, that might be handy to work with your network administrators to see if they can determine why this communication is not present) 3. Verify that any firewalls present on the server and client system allow communication on port 1700 You can also contact support@exelisvis.com for more troubleshooting, as we might want to grab some more information regarding your operating system, and any error messages that you are encountering.
