As defined in the manual: "The azimuth angle is defined as the azimuth (the angle between the line of sight and due North) of the sensor as viewed from the ground. This angle is arbitrary for nadir-viewing sensors. Azimuth values must be between -180 and 180 degrees. For example, if your azimuth from the sensor is 90 degrees (due east), then the azimuth from the ground is -90 degrees (due west)." My case: http://imgur.com/BmOGE Sensor passes scene in a north-south trajectory, and captures a scene to the west of it. So the sensor passes east of the scene. Is have the angle between north and the look angle, but in this case is it positive or negative? Thanks.

Try thinking about lying on the ground with your head toward the north, looking up at the sensor. Your azimuth will be positive if you would measure the smallest angle from north in a clockwise direction. It would be negative if you would measure the smallest angle from north in a counterclockwise direction. In your case, it sounds like the sensor was pointing to the west. So, if you were lying on the ground with your head toward the north looking up at the sensor, you would measure the smallest angle from north in a clockwise direction. So, the sensor azimuth is positive. Hope that helps. Peg

Thanks, that is what I was thinking initially. So its the angle between north and the viewing direction. But the wording in the manual threw me off a bit. "the angle between the line of sight and due North" So I started thinking it might be from the viewing direction to north, so in this case that would be counterclockwise and negative.
