I have installed idl 8.0 on mac os 10.8 using the server license. In the Terminal, the idl command seems OK. But when using idlde, many buttons on the tool bar become grey and do not response. Please see the screenshot of the idlde workbench is : idl workbench figure And when I choose save the file, idlde shows that "save failed, java.lang.NullPointerException". The screenshot is as following: idl save failed figure How can I fix this problem? Thank you for any help!

IDL 8.0 isn't supported on Mac 10.8 so it wouldn't be unusual to run into some problems. You may find a solution in the Help Articles: http://www.exelisvis.com/...rt/HelpArticles.aspx The other option is to download 8.2.1 which will work with your OS

I have purchased idl 8.2.0 (single user) and installed on my mac 10.8, but when I begin to start idlde, it quits with unexpected error, and I need to restart it to work. I wonder that can I update it to 8.2.1 directly ? or must I pay for it again? Thanks!

If you paid for 8.2 you should be able to upgrade to 8.2.1. If you run into problems running 8.2.1 you should contact ExelisIVIS technical support. Make sure you give them details about any error messages and what you did to get them. You can also check the Help Articles for potential solutions.

Hi there, If you are still experiencing the same issue, try renaming the following hidden directory that is located in your home directory: .idl You can do the following from the X11 prompt: mv .idl _idl After that, try starting IDLDE again. Does it help? Cheers, Fernando

I had the same problem when I started using Mountain Lion. That version of IDL isn't designed to work with 10.8. If you update to IDL 8.2.1, it should solve the problem. The DE works fine with Mountain Lion then.
