In IDLDE 7.1, once an active direct graphics window was open, it was possible to input commands into the IDLDE console while keeping the active window "up front" (or "on top") so that you can make plotting changes on the fly and see it update without making the IDLDE active and "on top", thus covering up the plotting window. This was nice because they could overlap each other on the monitor but I could still easily make real time changes and see the results. This no longer seems to be the case in 8.2.1. Every time I want to make changes in the console, it becomes active and covers up my plot window so I cannot easily see the changes. I have to maneuver and resize everything so I can see both and they don't cover each other up. This is annoying. Is it possible to set this back to the way it was somewhere? Thanks.

Yes, WShow is a no show in IDL 8.x. I guess it's not coming back, because I've been complaining about it for about two years now and no one even seems to know what I'm talking about. http://www.idlcoyote.com/...ps/noshow_wshow.html If I were you, I would invest in another monitor for your graphics windows. Or, failing that, I've found on my laptop that Actual Title Buttons from ActiveTools are useful. You can "pin" windows on top, roll them up out of the way, etc. I use these when I am teaching classes. Otherwise, my blood pressure gets so high its gets dangerous. http://www.actualtools.com/products/ By the way, it's always good for a laugh in a class when I type WShow and the browser pops forward, showing the restaurant where we are going to lunch!

Hmm. That's too bad. It was a handy feature. Now I'm wondering if it's an IDL thing at all. When I was using 7.1, I was on a Scientific Linux machine and everything was working great. Now with 8.2.1 I'm using a Mac OS X with Mountain Lion. And I haven't done a control to separate out the awesomeness of 7.1 with linux or mac. It looks like Active Title Buttons is only for windows so I'm out of luck on that one. Do you know of any solutions for other OS's?
