Hi I start to work with Landsat 8 images and I have several doubts. As I have to work with a high number of images I would like to know if it is possible to open all the visible bands as an unique image in a automatic way. At this moment I am opening the tiff bands in ENVI and then I am stacking the bands. Another doubt is if it is planned to add a specific atmospheric correction for Landsat 8. Thank you in advance Best regards

Are you running ENVI 5 SP3? If so, you can open the _mtl file and all the bands will open into their respective files (vis-swir, pan, thermal, and cirrus is separated). With SP3, the Landsat-8 filter function is included in the distribution (C:\Program Files\Exelis\ENVI50\classic\filt_func\ldcm_oli.sli) which can be used in FLAASH as an 'unknown MSI sensor'. Quac can always be used and no specific sensor setting is required.

Thank you for your answer. Yes, I have installed SP3 version, however, when I try to open the image using Open As>Lansat>GeoTIFF with metadata the following error appears: Internal Error: ODATA How could I solve this issue? Thank you in advance

Try removing the .idl and IDLworkspace in your home directory which will remove the previous configuration files. Perhaps there was a conflict.

Thank you Mari. I eliminate the folders but the problem still persists. Regards

Hmm, I don't know then since I don't get this error opening Landsat 8 files. You may need to contact technical support directly.

hie Folks!! First of all i would like to say 'thanks' to admin of this forum. Landsat8 data are free so the people, who are using Landsat calibration using ENVI Classic windows, feel annoyed with new windows interface of envi5 to analyze the landsat 8 images. My genuine question is that how one can open landsat8 OLI MTL file in envi 5 sp3 classic windows? my second question is that when envi community will release a help manual for calibration and atmospheric correction of Landsat 8 images? thanx in advance!!

ENVI Classic is not updated to support Landsat 8 data and I do not believe there are plans to do so. New sensor support will be in ENVI 5 along with the calibration tools for them. The new Radiometric Calibration can be used to convert any Landsat data to radiance or TOA reflectance just like the previous Landsat calibration tool found in ENVI Classic. Atmospheric correction will work the same for Landsat 8 as it does for Landsat 7 or 5. A new sensor for Landsat-8 has not yet been added to the FLAASH list of multispectral sensors but will be for ENVI 5.1. However it is not necessary to use a specific sensor in FLAASH for Landsat-8 data. You can use the 'Unknown MSI' sensor and simply fill in the sensor altitude and pixel size. Then set the filter function to the ldcm_oli.sli located in the \envi50\classic\filt_func directory (using SP3).

Hi everyone, A question related with landsat 8 and the radiometric calibration. I have no problems using the tool trough ENVI, but is not clear for me if it's possible to use it with IDL. I have not found information about this and I have a lot of landsat 8 imagery that I would like to process automatically (as I already do with Landsat 4-5-7). Any help will be very appreciated

The Radiometric Calibration tool is not currently available in batch mode (i.e. using ENVI programming). The development is considering adding this option in a next version of the product. I would recommend to contact tech support (support@exelisvis.com) when the next version of ENVI would be available to check if this option will be included.
