Hi, I'm new to ENVI and i have a few questions. 1) Is it possible to segment one image, extract features/attributes and save it as training data and then use this data to classify other images (not the same area)? 2) Is it possible to add own features/attributes? Or implement other algorithms, e.g some other segmentation methods? 3) How do i create ground truth regions? Sanna

Hi Sanna, 1. Yes, you can use the "Segment Only Feature Extraction" workflow (ENVI 5 and later) or Feature Extraction workflow (ENVI 4.4 - 4.8) to segment an image, extract attributes, and save the segmentation results and attributes to a shapefile for later use. The Example-Based Feature Extraction workflow further allows you to classify segmentation results and create training data. 2. The Feature Extraction workflows come with a default set of spatial, spectral, and texture attributes. The workflow will not accept any custom attributes. You can add your own attributes/columns to vector shapefiles by right-clicking on the shapefile in the Layer Manager and selecting "View Attributes", then clicking the "Add Column" button in the Attribute Viewer. See the ENVI Help for details. 3. The Classification workflow allows you to create ground truth regions (polygons, points, polylines) when you select the "Use Training Data" option. You can export the training data to a shapefile without having to proceed with classification. I hope this helps.
