Hello, I use ENVI Version 5.0. I have LANDSAT8 data that I download from the web. Although it worked in the past, I cannot open the files properly: I use: Open AS - Landsat - geotiff with metadata text file, select the MTL file, and get the error message: "File does not appear to be a valid tiff file" Although I use the original TIFF files and it worked in the past. The problem is with images from the Sixth of June 2013, path 174 row 37-39. Thanks Gilad

Are you running ENVI 5.0.3 (SP3) or ENVI 5.1? Also, you cannot open Landat-8 in ENVI Classic.

I have met the same question in ENVI 5.0 SP3. When open landsat8 file with the name "LO", which means that the file has Landsat 8 OLI(http://landsat.usgs.gov/naming_conven...) only, there is the "File does not appear to be a valid tiff". When open file with the name "LC", which means that the file has Landsat 8 OLI and TIRS, everything goes wright.

I believe this was fixed in ENVI 5.1. Can you try this version?

    Dear friends,
I got the same problem with open Landsat 8. I tried to open with metadata file but it happened with error. I used Envi 5.3 to open it. Please, help me to solve this matter.
    Thank you very much.
I enclosed the message of error
"Problem: an error was encountered reading this file
Error: STRLEN: variables is undefined: BAND_STR."
